Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 is a compact crossover SUV which was released by German automaker Audi for the 2009 model year. It is built using the new Audi MLP platform (Modular Longitudinal Platform) which debuted in the 2007 Audi A5 coupé. The Q5 is be the second Audi model in the "Q" range, after the full-size Q7. The Q5 slots above the future Q3, which will be based on the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Q5 will eventually be offered with multiple engine configurations, including petrol engines, Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engines, and Hybrid gasoline/electric. The Audi Q5 will use a 6-speed tiptronic transmission.

The new vehicle will be built in Audi's home town of Ingolstadt. It will need an investment of about US$400 million in production tooling and expansion. The Q5 will also be produced in Changchun, China for the Chinese market. The first public introduction of the Audi Q5 was at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show on 19 April 2008 (alongside the similarly-competitive Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, although a convertible concept car named "Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro" was shown at the 2007 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show.

Powertrain options include a base 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a 3.2L variable valve lift gasoline V6 engine, a 2.0L I4 and a 3.0L V6 Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel, as well as a hybrid petrol/electric version for future model years. The only planned powertrain available for the U.S. market as confirmed by Audi USA on July 9, 2008 will be a 3.2L 6 cylinder gasoline engine mated to Audi's 6-speed tiptronic automatic transmission driving Audi's quattro permanent four-wheel drive system. Any future powertrain options for the USA market have not been announced.

The Q5 will be available in several different trim options. The S-line trim option upgrades the base Q5 exterior with more aggressive body mouldings and mesh front fog light grills. More paint options are also included with the S-line. The Offroad exterior package includes front and rear underbody protection panels, along with flared fender and door sill protection for a more capable look.

Harmon/Becker Automotive Systems will produce Audi's new updated Multi Media Interface (MMI) technology as it debuts in the Q5. The new system will offer navigation, communication, and wide-screen entertainment. An embedded Nvidia graphics processor based on a stable previous generation GPU core will be used in the new MMI system, and will generate smooth map transitions while driving. A three-dimensional orientation view with true-to-scale terrain and photorealistic depictions of key landmarks will also be generated. Included features in this new system are USB storage media (iPod or MP3), satellite radio, and an integral four-band GSM mobile/cell phone (SIM card ready) with Bluetooth connectivity.

Estimated delivery dates to dealers are October 2008 for Europe, and the first quarter of 2009 in North America. Hot weather testing for the US model is currently underway in Florida, California, and Arizona. Future powertrain options and other possible Q5 variants for the United States market have yet to be announced.

A sensor informs the ESP system if a roof rack has been mounted, which will cause the Audi Q5’s centre of gravity to be shifted higher in keeping with the roof load of up to 100 kilograms (220 pounds). If a roof rack is present, the ESP engages earlier in the handling limit. Without a roof load, the driver is free to tap the full dynamic potential of the Audi Q5.

The Audi Q5 is capable of towing up to 2.0 tonnes; the standard hill descent control system makes it safe to navigate down steep inclines by regulating the preselected speed when driving at under 30 km/h (18 mph). The Q5 is also fitted with an advanced Trailer Stability Program designed to combat any unwanted snaking when towing a large trailer or caravan.

Audi Q1

The Audi Q1 is a name commonly used for a proposed mini crossover SUV from the German carmaker Audi. It is expected to be based on the Volkswagen Group PQ24 platform, shared by the Volkswagen Polo, Škoda Fabia and SEAT Ibiza superminis.

The Q1 designation is merely for model reference purposes in relation to the Audi Q5 and Audi Q3.

The Q1 would slot below the upcoming Audi Q3, and would similarly be required to not use the "Q" designation in its name in the United States as an agreement with the carmaker Infiniti requires. No firm plans by Audi to produce the Q1 have been published so far.

John Marshall High School (Los Angeles, California)

John Marshall High School is a high school located at 3939 Tracy Street, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Marshall, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Marshall is named after jurist John Marshall, who served as Chief Justice of the United States for three decades.

The school is in the Los Feliz district of the city, northeast of Hollywood. Students at Marshall primarily come from Los Feliz, Atwater Village, East Hollywood, northeastern Koreatown, Elysian Valley, and Silver Lake.

John Marshall is currently in its tenth year as a concept 6/multitrack year-round school.

John Marshall High School offers a good number of Advanced Placement and honors courses on top of the regular curriculum. The variety of AP courses offered makes it possible to take almost every major subject offered in grades 9-12 in the AP system. Entry to these courses in the past has been granted to students with high grades or letters of recommendation from their previous teachers. Many of the students who have taken AP courses move on to campuses of the University of California, with some top students achieving admission to Ivy League universities or other universities in the Top 25, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

Within the school, there are many Small Learning Communities including the School for Environmental Studies, the school's only California Partnership Academy, the Performing Arts Academy, the Artistic Vision Academy, the STARS Academy, the Renaissance Academy, and the Social Justice Academy. The School also houses a School for Advanced Studies and a Gifted/Highly Gifted Magnet.

John Marshall High School first opened its doors on January 26, 1931 with approximately 1200 students and 48 teachers. Joseph Sniffen, for whom the auditorium was named, served as the Principal, while Hugh Boyd and Geraldine Keith acted as Marshall’s first Vice-Principals. The football field was named in Mr. Boyd's honor, while the library was named for Mrs. Keith.

During the first semester of the school's existence, the faculty and students cooperatively selected the school motto, seal, and colors. The school motto, Veritas Vincit (Truth Conquers), was an easy choice since this was a favorite sentiment of John Marshall. The school seal shows an open Book of Learning, behind which is projected the scales of justice with Veritas Vincit emblazoned on the bar. Two shades of blue became the official colors of the high school; the moonlight blue of midnight and the sunlight blue of dawn. Since the color blue is symbolic of truth, the choice of colors harmonized with the school's motto. John Montapert and Henry Suykida, two Marshall students who graduated in the Winter Class of 1939, composed "Alma Mater", the official school song.

Johnny Barrister is the school’s mascot. Since John Marshall was in the legal profession and served as a jurist it was fitting that Marshall’s students be called “Barristers.” The school's service organization is the Continentals. A bust of John Marshall stands in the center of the Senior Court.

Following the Sylmar earthquake of 1971, some of Marshall’s buildings were condemned. The cafeteria was torn down, but the Los Feliz community, led by "Citizens to Save Marshall" activists Sherril Boller, Joanne Gabrielson, Alberta Burke, and Nina Mohi, tirelessly campaigned to save the unique Collegiate Gothic Main Building. In 1975, this building was closed for structural strengthening and all classes moved to temporary bungalows. In September 1981 the refurbished Main Building was opened. A new building now houses the library, cafeteria, and science classrooms.

Marshall won the United States Academic Decathlon in 1987 (under David Tokofsky) and 1995. The Head coach of the 1995 team was Mr Phil Chase, who also opened the School for Advanced Studies.

Today, Marshall has an enrollment of approximately 4,500 students and a teaching staff of 200.

The school will be relieved by Central Region High School 13 when the school opens in 2011 .

The football field was used for the ending sequence of Grease.

In the TV series "Who's the Boss?",character Samantha Micelli (Alyssa Milano) loses her yellow car at the front of the school.

German automaker, Audi, used the school to film a new commercial, featuring its Audi Q5 crossover SUV.

The video for Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" was shot inside the school library.
