Nick Schultz

NickSchultz.jpg

Nick Schultz (born August 25, 1982, in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He currently plays for the Minnesota Wild of the NHL, and has also represented Canada in international competition.

Nick Schultz was selected in the second round, 33rd overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild from the Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders. Before joining the Raiders, Nick played for Yorkton in the SMAAAHL. He spent three seasons with the Raiders. During this time, he also participated in the World Junior Hockey Championships twice, in 2001 and 2002.

Over the course of his career Schultz has evolved into a defensive unsung hero for the Wild. He is known for his durability and defensive skills that often go unmentioned, such as shot blocking and excellent defensive positioning. In his career with the Wild, Schultz has only missed one game due to injury, in February 2002 . He was a member of the 2007 Canadian IIHF World Championship team that won gold in a 4–2 win against Finland in Moscow. Team Canada rotated alternate captains throughout the tournament, Schultz was wearing an A during the final game.

Schultz was a restricted free agent after the 2006–07 NHL season. He had hoped to negotiate a long term deal with the Wild, but when that failed to materialize, he signed a 1-year contract worth $1.85 million. During the 2007-08 NHL season, Schultz and the Wild agreed on a 6 year contract extension.

Schultz grew up on his family's farm in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. He has two older brothers one of whom, Kris, played professional hockey in the CHL and UHL. His other brother is named Terrance, and his parent's names are Robert and Carol . His cousin Jesse Schultz made his NHL debut in the 2006-07 season, playing for the Vancouver Canucks. Jesse is now in the Minnesota Wild system, but has yet to play a game for the big club in St. Paul. Nick is married, his wife's name is Jessica (nee Dibb). They have a son, Jake Douglas, born in October 2007. They make their off-season home in Calgary. Jessica's sister is also married to an NHL player, Cory Sarich of the Calgary Flames. He is friends with Jarret Stoll of the Los Angeles Kings and is often present at Stoll's yearly charity golf tournament.

Nick Schultz (Blue Heelers)

Bh nicks1.jpg

Nick Schultz was a fictional character from Blue Heelers. He was portrayed by William McInnes. He starred in the series between 1994 and 1998 and returned for guest appearances in 2004 and 2005. It was revealed in the first season that he had a wife and daughter who had been killed in a car accident.

It was revealed a few episodes into the series that Nick had tragically lost his wife and young daughter in a car accident a few years ago. He stated that this is the reason he joined the traffic division. He was portrayed as a light hearted but short tempered man with a troubled past. Season 1, 1994, was a rather quiet year for him though. He was good mates with everyone at the station.

1995 was more eventful for Nick. He begun a relationship with widow Sasha Peters. The relationship only lasted a few months though. He had several personality clashes with Wayne. The first one was over a pursuit which wasn't terminated when it was supposed to be and the second was over Wayne's mate who ran over a 13 year old girl while driving under the influence. Nick also conducted an intervention on Tom's younger daughter Susan who had become mixed up in a cult.

Early in 1996, Nick was accused of killing a child killer who was being held in custody. His colleagues were suspicious because of his hatred of that type of criminal - Whenever a young girl was killed it brought back painful memories of his daughter. When Wayne died, Nick was furious because he was not allowed to attend his funeral because of Wayne's parents wishes. He took his anger out on Wayne's ex-wife Roz who delivered the news of the Patterson's resentfulness of the Police force. He also started developing a friendship with doctor Zoe Hamilton.

In what was a quiet year for Nick, he continued to develop his relationship with doctor Hamilton. However, in another event that reminded him of his dead daughter, Nick tried to save the lives of two young girls with the help of Adam in flooding rain. Nick was trying to stop a girl from being flushed down a drain pipe by holding on to her arm. He instructed Adam to go and radio in to get help but when Adam ran back to the car, the road it was on had been washed away, with another young girl inside. While Adam was trying to get to the young girl in the car, Nick thought Adam had abandoned him.

Nick begun a relationship with Zoe Hamilton. He proposed to her early in the season but his proposal was rejected. In 1998 Mt Thomas Station was upgraded resulting in Nick getting Promoted to Sergeant. However due to Tom being used to being the Sergeant (Tom was now Senior Sergeant)Nick started to get frustrated that Tom wasn't letting him do his job as sergeant and even considered a transfer. He followed PJ's advice though and reconsidered the transfer. Late in the year he proposed to Zoe again, this time successful. The two were married in a Mt.Thomas park and they both left after the wedding for Melbourne, with Nick being getting a posting at Footscray Police station.

Jesse Schultz

Jesse Schultz (born September 28, 1982 in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian ice hockey player for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.

Schultz spent four seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League, starting in the 1999–00 season with the Tri-City Americans. He would be dealt to the Prince Albert Raiders midway through the 2000–01 season, where he played well, scoring 32 points in 35 games for the Raiders. However, it wasn't enough to get him selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, as he was passed over in his first year of eligibility.

Schultz was traded to the Kelowna Rockets for the 2001–02 season, and posted solid totals of 28 goals and 64 points. However, he was passed over again in the NHL draft as scouts deemed him too small and too slow for the pro game. However, a 53-goal, 104-point performance in 2002–03 would earn him a free-agent contract from the Vancouver Canucks on July 31, 2003.

Schultz turned pro in 2003, but failed to make the Manitoba Moose, the Canucks' primary farm team. Instead, he suited up for the ECHL Columbia Inferno, scoring 27 goals in 52 games. In 2004–05, Schultz did manage to stick in Manitoba, posting 9 goals and 24 points in 70 AHL games.

The 2005–06 season was a turning point for Schultz. After a disappointing first two professional seasons and in the last year of his contract with the Canucks, his pro future looked uncertain. However, he would have a standout year, leading the Moose with 37 goals and 67 points, and re-established himself as a player with NHL potential.

Heading into the 2006–07 NHL season, Schultz was considered a favourite to crack the Canucks' roster following the departure of several veteran forwards. Adding to his chances, he was a favourite of head coach Alain Vigneault, who had been promoted to Vancouver after coaching the Moose the previous season. However, Schultz had an extremely disappointing training camp and was returned to the AHL. Aeros right wing Jesse Schultz became the second player on the roster to tally 50 points when he assisted on the Aeros fifth goal of the game. He now has 21 goals and 29 assists in 66 games played this season and it marks the third time in his career that he has scored 50+ points. He now has 247 points (111-136=247) in 366 career games played. Lets go Jesse and the Aeros. They are currently in 2nd place in the AHL standings.

Schultz was recalled to the Canucks after a solid start in Manitoba, and made his NHL debut on November 29, 2006 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

On July 23, 2007, Schultz was traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the Atlanta Thrashers for Jim Sharrow. He would not play a game with the Thrashers in 2007-08 season, instead playing with affiliate the Chicago Wolves where he would help win the Calder Cup.

On July 6th, 2008, Schultz signed with the Minnesota Wild to a one-year contract and was later assigned to affiliate the Houston Aeros.

Jesse's cousin, Nick Schultz grew up in the same home town and also is a member of the Minnesota Wild.

Blue Heelers (season 1)

Bh cast1994.jpg

The first season of the Australian police-drama Blue Heelers premiered on the Seven Network on 18 January 1994 and aired on Tuesday nights at 7:30 PM. The 45-episode season concluded on 22 November 1994.

The show was a success, and by the end of its 45-episode first season the PJ-Maggie shippers had quickly amassed.

Ann Burbrook was originally cast as Maggie Doyle and Lisa McCune as Roz Patterson but the two swapped roles to avoid being typecast in the future.

William McInnes was originally cast as PJ Hasham and Martin Sacks as Nick Schultz but the two swapped roles because McInnes "looked more like a Schultz".

Roz was written out of the show before season's end, because the producers thought that they could do more with another police character, rather than a civilian. This allowed for the introduction of Adam Cooper to the group.

Notable guest stars for the season included Radha Mitchell, Gerard Kennedy, Kate Keltie, Anne Phelan, Petra Jared, Charles 'Bud' Tingwell, Lois Collinder, Raelee Hill, Libby Tanner, Lois Ramsay, Ian Smith, David Wenham, Rex Hunt and Janet Andrewartha.

At the start of the season, we meet young city constable, Maggie Doyle, who is arriving at her posting in the small country town of Mt. Thomas. At Mt. Thomas police station we also meet the officer in charge, Sergeant Tom Croydon, who runs "his" station with an almost grandfatherly watch over his co-workers. We also meet Constable Wayne Patterson, who we find had a short romance with Maggie while they attended the Victoria Police Academy together; much to Maggie's surprise, he is now married to Roz Patterson. We also meet Senior Constable Nick Schultz, a sarcastic and yet good-hearted cop, and Senior Detective Patrick Joseph "P.J." Hasham, a charismatic and somewhat chauvinistic detective who soon found himself very interested in Maggie. At the local pub, The Imperial, we meet Chris Riley, a local woman who knows all the ins-and-outs of Mt. Thomas.

During the season, we see Roz assisting the Heelers and later getting a job at the station as the administration officer. We also see the extent of Roz and Wayne's marriage problems which, when brought to a head when Roz witnesses a shooting over the telephone, results in the end of their marriage and Roz leaving Mt. Thomas and returning to her home in Melbourne. This marriage dissolution is a result of many pressure which Roz and Wayne are placed under as a result of Wayne's dangerous job. This includes his being shot and left for dead by two criminals and Roz's somewhat intense jealousy for Maggie. Roz's absence opens up a place for ambitious and contentious young cop, Constable Adam Cooper, whose "breaking-in" at Mt. Thomas is anything but smooth, particularly with Wayne who develops quite a disdain for him. Keeping with the theme of family problems, we see how Tom's family problems, including problems with his two daughters, develop. These are only made worse with the death of Tom's wife, Nell, as a result of a car accident. Tom, as a superior police officer, has to learn to deal to separate his personal and professional lives. He is increasingly finding it harder and harder when he has to deal with his friends and family when it is them that have committed offenses. PJ has to deal with an old flame, Hilary Edmunds, when she arrives in town as part of the livestock squad, investigating farming issues in Mt. Thomas. Maggie also finds romance in Mt. Thomas with shifty detective, Sean Neale, and she has trust issues when she discovers that her beloved boyfriend may in fact be a criminal. Maggie also discovers she has relationship problems with her father, Sergeant Pat Doyle. It is also revealed that Nick is carrying a huge secret: his wife and daughter, as well as half of his family, were killed in a tragic car accident. This is revealed to be the reason Nick joined highway patrol and the reason for his stance against vehicle offenses such as speeding and drink driving.
